UMF’s Month of Service begins Saturday

FARMINGTON - University of Maine at Farmington students, faculty and staff kick-off the 2010 academic year with UMF’s third annual “Month of Service.” Developed to bring members of the campus and Farmington community together as they participate in volunteer activities for the public good, this year’s program will engage campus volunteers throughout the month of September at food pantries, churches, public service providers, nonprofit agencies and more.

Wilton voters accept planning grant; safety meeting Monday

School consolidation plan taking shape

JAY - A new plan to merge the Jay School Department and RSU 36 continues to develop, with planning committee members expecting to begin reviewing a first draft on Sept. 21.

A group of community members from the two districts have been working steadily for the past several months to develop a plan to create a single district to educate the children of Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls. In addition to developing the core plan required by the state, subcommittees have been creating series of recommendations for the proposed Regional School Unit. Residents of all three towns will vote on the plan in January 2011 and, if approved, the new district would be officially created in July.



$31k awarded to Wilton PD

Update: Homes found for abandoned puppies

FARMINGTON - Two sets of puppies dropped off overnight at the Franklin County Shelter this summer have been adopted into good homes.

In late July, a police officer on his late night rounds found two young pups that had been dropped off in a crate at the animal shelter. Ten days before that discovery, another two puppies were dropped off overnight in one of the shelter’s outdoor pens and were found by staff the next morning.



One man dies, four more injured in Carthage crash
