FARMINGTON – UMF’s men’s rugby team took control early on to notch a convincing 49-22 victory against visiting St. Anselm on Saturday.

Before a large crowd and in perfect rugby conditions the UMF men ran in five early tries to take an insurmountable 27-0 lead into the half-time break. Hard running by inside center Taber Hammond and second row Dan Linck had the UMF men playing off the front foot all match long, and UMF’s patience and good technique in regaining the ball after the tackle left the many supportive UMF alumni ruggers in attendance unanimous in their praise of this year’s team.

The UMF men, now 4-1, finish up their regular season with a winner-take-all home match next Saturday, Oct. 24, against 5-0 Tufts University. The winner of that match will win the regular season conference crown and earn a home playoff berth in the league’s championship tourney which will begin the following weekend.
