Helen E. Howard (1924-2009)

Helen E. Howard, 85, of Lisbon, formerly of Farmington, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at The Lamp in Lisbon.

She was born Feb. 22, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Willard B. and Sarah D. (Adams) Gray. She was educated in the schools of Dallas Plantation and Rangeley. As a young woman she worked at Forsters Mfg. for a few years and then went on to work at Farmington Shoe and later at Reny’s Department Store.

On March 23, 1945, she married Kenneth Howard, who died in Feb. 1989. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. When her husband was alive she loved to hunt and fish. Her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was precious to her. The family would like to thank the staff at The Lamp and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Helen.

Helen is survived by a friend and companion Robert (Fido) Lovell; a son John Brackett and his wife Linda of Mass.; two daughters Grace Lowell and her husband Ernest of Farmington, and Diane Cole; stepchildren Francena Moody and Charland Howard; nine grandchildren Scott and David Brackett, Delana Yeaton, Katrina Pease, Kathleen Sniadecki, Lee, Ted, Ed, and Fred Lowell; 13 great grandchildren Michaela, Shula, Caitlyn, Chris, Aaron, Lisa, Lee, Ted Jr., Kenneth, Julia, Evan, Fred Jr., and Miranda; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, a sister Gertrude, four brothers Wilford, Charles, Richard and Cyril.

A graveside service will be held on May 22, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the North Franklin Cemetery in Farmington. Donations may be made in Helen’s memory to The Lamp, 64 Lisbon St., Lisbon, Maine 04250.
