Summer fun: Rangeley’s Logging Festival & competition results

RANGELEY – With 190 points, Jerry Gingras of Bear Country Power Sports in Errol, New Hampshire, claimed first Overall in the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum’s Woodsmen’s Competition on Saturday 24 July at the Museum’s 30th anniversary Logging Festival.

Competing both with and against his wife Katy Gingras, Mr. Gingras took home a Stihl chain saw as his award donated by Rick Canzellarini of Northeast Stihl. Second in the Over-all competition was Josh Haley of Rangeley Plantation with 160 points; he received a cash award. Third in the Over-all Competition with 100 points each were Joel Burdin of Sangerville, Jim Carignan of Rangeley, and Jacob Oakes of Buxton who also won a cash award.

To start the competition, Jerry Gingras and Jim Burak demonstrated speed chopping. Judges were John Chandonnet, Kirsten Frazier, Michael Frazier, Lenita Richard, Ron Robichaud, Bob Schriever, as well as members of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail association. Joshua and David Frazier served as judges’s helpers. The competition was organized by Rodney Richard, Jr., and Lenita Richard of Pownal.
