RANGELEY – Davis Page Wurts, 87, of Rangeley, died early Monday morning, Nov. 8, 2010 at his home in Rangeley.

He was born on Apr. 17, 1923, in Philadelphia, PA, a son of John S. and Dorothy B. (Williams) Wurts. He attended Penn Charter school, the University of Michigan and was a graduate of Bowdoin in 1945.

Mr. Wurts went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII and after the war helped design submarines. He taught at the University of New Hampshire and SMVTI in Portland. He went on to work as a mechanical and civil engineer and land surveyor. One of his proudest achievements was designing a road that was built in Rangeley when he was in his 80s.

He was a proud member of the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad. He loved being in the outdoors and hiking as he had hiked Mt. Katahdin and Mt. Washington. Although never having designed or built a seaplane, he loved staying informed about their design through various literature and trade journals.

He is survived by his children, Reed, Henry and Caroline Wurts; a step-son, Ted Neilson; grandchildren, David and Anna Wurts and Ross DiMassimo.

Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with his family at www.wilesrc.com.
