More choices for educators taking courses this January

MEXICO – This January, the seven campuses of the University of Maine System are offering a record number of education courses through the University College at Rumford/Mexico and sites in Farmington, Livermore Falls, Rangeley, and Kingfield. Teachers and college students at all levels can choose courses which University College has vetted through the State of Maine Department of Education. Courses are taught by University of Maine System faculty at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Most of the courses are delivered online. Students without high-speed internet access can participate in the courses at University College’s well-equipped computer lab, and at one of their four sites. Staff at the center and sites offer support to all students who are new to online learning. Courses that are delivered through video conferencing are available at the Rumford/Mexico Center.

“Each semester we offer a greater number and variety of education courses online and at our center,” said Jean Kay, Director of University College at Rumford/Mexico. “We are excited to offer courses and programs in our community that will allow people with busy schedules to become certified as Maine teachers.”

Registration for spring 2011 semester courses varies with each university, but many are accepting registrations now. Call 364-7882 or 800-696-1103 (in state) for more information.
