UMF kicks off Alpine ski season

RANGELEY – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s and women’s Alpine ski teams started their respective seasons at Saddleback with Reynolds Division giant slalom racing today.

The Beavers are tabbed to return to the slopes Sunday at Sugarloaf.

The Beaver men raced to a first-place finish. Farmington scored nine points to finished ahead of University of Maine (17) and Bates College ‘B’ (19).

Max Sasso (Lansing, Mich.), Sam Ricker (Turner, Maine) and Andrew Baxter (Hope, Maine) spearheaded Farmington’s effort as the trio placed second, third and fourth, in that order.

Farmington’s Jacquelyn Reis (Bethel, Maine) was the top finisher on the women’s side in helping the team to third place. Bates ‘B’ won the women’s race with 12 points followed by Maine (15) and Farmington (18).
