Mill meeting held at Verso Paper

JAY – Pulp and Paper industry suppliers, members of the Northeast Paper Industry Management Association, the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry and the Maine Pulp & Paper Association as well as University of Maine alumni—now Verso employees—attended a mill open house and luncheon recently at Verso Paper’s Androscoggin Mill.

“The mill luncheon meeting and tour was the largest group in attendance since we started organizing Mill luncheon meetings five years ago. More than 100 attendees met in the Sugarloaf conference room for a working lunch followed by a mill tour,” said John Wolanski, chair of the Foundation Membership Committee and VP of Safe Handling.

The luncheon meetings are sponsored by the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation in collaboration with the Northeast Paper Industry Management Association, the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry and the Maine Pulp & Paper Association.

“Dick Jackson, mill manager at the Androscoggin Mill, delivered an enthusiastic presentation on the Verso Paper organization and the vitality of the Androscoggin Mill. In addition to Verso mill employees and UMaine alumni, there were many Fortune 500 company members in attendance from as far away as China and Canada. This supports the fact that the Maine paper industry is the economic engine of the state and Maine continues to firmly hold its place as the second largest paper-producing state in the nation,” said John Wolanski.

Mill luncheon meetings are held quarterly across the state at various mill locations or on the university campus in Orono. The mission of the University of Maine’s Pulp & Paper Foundation is to prepare young people for careers in the Pulp & Paper industry. These meetings support the foundation and the network to showcase work in the industry.
