CARRABASSSETT VALLEY – Bruce Spang, former poet laureate of Portland and English teacher at Scarborough High School and author of two new books, will read from his work beginning 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Carrabassett Valley Public Library.

He has a recently published the novel, The Deception of the Thrush and a new book of poems Boy at The Screen Door. He has also written To the Promised Land Grocery, I Have Walked though Many Lives: Young Voices—Scarborough, The Knot, Tip End of Time. Bruce is working on a new book about teachers to incorporate creative writing in the new standards based curriculum, Putting the Art Back in Language Arts, and is currently on the Port Veritas board of directors and Maine Poetry Central.

Bruce is currently working on his next novel about Jason and his years at Divinity School and working in Appalachia. He lives in Falmouth, with his partner Myles and their two labs. Each summer for 30 years, he has come to Sugarloaf to play golf and relax. His parents, Annie and Ralph Spang, have come to the ‘loaf each summer since the golf course was built back in 1985. So he’s feels right at home in Carrabassett Valley.
