RANGELEY – The Rangeley Friends of the Arts presents “Music from the Lake” featuring Downeast Brass on Thursday, July 14, at 7 p.m.; a unique concert on the lakeside lawn behind the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley.

The band will play from the deck of “The Gray Ghost” – a lake touring vessel. As the band plays just offshore, concert goers can set up chairs or spread a blanket and bring a picnic as they enjoy the sounds of classic brass music and the sunset over Rangeley Lake. Attendees should bring their own seating; in case of inclement weather, the concert will take place inside the Church. There is no admission; donations will be gratefully accepted.

The Downeast Brass’s founder and arranger, Dwight Tibbetts, has kept the unique talents and skills of his colleagues in mind as he has arranged music specifically for the group. From Andy Forster’s pristine high trumpet tones to Mark Mumme’s full bass sonority, the Downeast Brass combines the skills of some of Maine’s premier musicians.

The concert is co-sponsored by Keep’s Corner Café, Parkside and Main Restaurant, and Rangeley Region Lake Cruises & Kayaking. The RFA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. To find their complete schedule of events, visit www.rangeleyarts.org.

  1. I’ve got you guys “in my book” for a new concert band that I’m in the early stages of forming (“The Grand Band of Maine”) Looking for sponsors right now. Object is to showcase the best musicians and some of the greatest band music ever written—and to benefit school band programs. May have it together by September but if not as son after as possible.
Send me your brochure or whatever you use for promoting yourself. I GUARANTEE that the first performance will lead to more. My principal advisor will be Loras Schissel, founder and conductor of the Virginia Grand Military Band. I had the great pleasure to perform 5 or 6 times with that band several years ago. One of the best!
