FARMINGTON – With every passing year, it seems the holidays become more marathon and less sprint, more road trip and less milk run, more Moby Dick and less Hunger Games. That is why western Maine improv comedians Teachers Lounge Mafia continue to provide a rest stop and stretch break for the season weary with Stale Milk & Sour Cookies 8, two nights of irreverent seasonal comedy, Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mt. Blue Campus Forum. All proceeds will benefit United Way of the Tri-Valley Area.
Stale Milk & Sour Cookies 8 features Teachers Lounge Mafia’s unique brand of custom-designed comedic storytelling. Through games similar to those seen on TV’s Whose Line? and more extended scenes and sketches, TLM use audience suggestions to poke fun at everything from awkward family gatherings and never-ending photo sessions, to uncomfortable gift swaps and Black Friday meltdowns. One never knows just what will happen at a Teachers Lounge Mafia show and that’s part of the fun. No two events are ever just alike. For these performances, Teachers Lounge will be joined by local musician Brent Laflin for a game of musical inspirations and ridiculousness.
Stale Milk & Sour Cookies is more than just a tradition for TLM. It is also the group’s eighth anniversary of performing comedy together. 2015 marked another exciting year for the group with performances throughout western, eastern and central Maine, as well several improv mindset workshops with health and education conferences, sports teams and organizations. TLM also celebrated the addition of its newest team member, Philip Hobby, a veteran improviser from southern Maine.
Over its history, Teachers Lounge has raised funds for disaster relief, medical research, heating assistance, and other charitable causes. This year, 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, enabling UWTVA to better connect the organizations that provide resources, information and assistance to the people who need them throughout western Maine.
The Mt. Blue Campus Forum’s doors open at 7 p.m. with showtime at 7:30 p.m. The show contains mature content. Tickets are $10 and on sale now at United Way of the Tri-Valley Area offices, 232 Broadway in Farmington. Remaining tickets will be available at the door. Advance purchase highly encouraged.
