FARMINGTON – On Saturday, Sept. 13, two seasoned singer/musicians will share the stage in a Children’s Concert at Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington. Professor Smarty Pants (aka Mark Horn) and Songman Stan (Stan Keach), both accomplished singers and acoustic musicians, will perform a collection of fun songs designed or adapted especially for children.

Grammy nominee Professor Smarty Pants has performed many children’s shows in Nashville, Tennessee, and more recently in libraries, museums, and other venues around Maine. His bouncy banjo playing, and rollicking sense of humor have delighted children (as well as their parents). His CD, Learn Something New, includes some of his most popular concert numbers, including Biscuits & Gravy, Ain’t He a Big Pig?, The Farmer’s Goat, and You Can’t Grow an Onion Upside Down. Country music Hall-of- Famer Tom T. Hall said: “He is original and has arrived on the scene at just the right time!”

Stan Keach, whose songs have been recorded by many nationally-known bands, has been playing Americana, Bluegrass and Celtic music in Maine since the early 1980’s — most recently with The Sandy River Ramblers and the Maranacook String Band. His CD, Cry of the Loon and other original songs about Maine, has been very popular in central Maine. Keach’s children’s songs include Here Kitty, My Old Dog, as well as some classic children’s poems (like Over in the Meadow, and The Owl and the Pussycat) set to new tunes.

The concert will start at 2 p.m. Nordica Auditorium is in Merrill Hall, 225 Main St., Farmington. Admission is $5; $10 for a family. The concert will benefit the Farmington Emblem Club.
