KINGFIELD – The New Year launches with a creative boost Friday, Jan. 4 when Kingfield Friday Artwalk resumes throughout the village from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Most venues offer light refreshments and all will present the creative endeavors of a number of the area’s craftsmen and artists. Red flags identify participating venues.

The Stadler Gallery of Contemporary Art is featuring Tatiana Maxsimic and her paintings. “I began my relationship with art at the age of five when I was introduced to local artist Ulrike Stadler,” notes Maxsimic. “She gave me lessons for many years, providing me with access to an array of different mediums. Expressing myself through painting became extremely important to me as a way to claim all of my life’s highs and lows and to turn it into something tangible for myself and others.”

High Peaks Artisan Guild on Main Street next to Longfellow’s Restaurant, is filled with fine paintings, crafts, jewelry, weaving, photography, cards, woodwork and more. Many of the guild’s members will be on hand to talk about their work and explain what they do and why. Members will offer a variety of refreshments.

Red Barn Upcycled Market, right across the street from High Peaks Artisan Guild, features Barbara Wiencek’s creative collection of re-purposed furniture, china and other must-haves.

The Ski Museum of Maine is featuring its newest exhibition “Maine Olympians — from the Pine Tree State to the World Stage.”

A few doors up from Red Barn sharing the building with Sugarloaf Sports Outlet, is the Ski Museum of Maine and its new exhibit, “Maine Olympians — from the Pine Tree State to the World Stage,” which has just been unveiled to the public and will be open for viewing during Artwalk. The exhibit presents the stories of Maine’s participation in each Winter Olympics from 1948 to the present.

The Webster Free Library, around the corner on Depot Street, includes, of course, books, readings, but also special exhibits and the historic building it’s housed in. “Come see the excitement in the library, urges Librarian Julia Bouwsma. Webster Free Library is a public library serving the town of Kingfield and the surrounding area.

Rolling Fatties, serving locally sourced food, rings in the New Year with Sam Whitman, a Maine-born musician whose roots are in blues, rock, soul and R&B. Whitman has been playing around Maine and New England with his father and his bands since a young age. Now 23, he has established a style and keeps growing as a musician and bandleader.
