Macek joins music camp staff in Rangeley

RANGELEY – Timothy Macek, conductor of The Howard University Symphony Orchestra, has joined the staff of the Westerhoff-RFA Music Camp, a week-long day camp for students aged 8-18, being held in Rangeley this August.

A former member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Macek is currently a member of the Kennedy Center/Washington National Opera. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from West Virginia University, and his Master of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music. In the past, he’s been faculty at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and was a member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra.

Currently a faculty member at Howard University, he conducts their Symphony Orchestra and is an instructor of violin and viola. Tim is the founder of the St. George Quartet and is a frequent performer of chamber music in the DC area.

The Rangeley Friends of the Arts (RFA) in partnership with the Westerhoff School of Music of Metuchen, N.J., and the Maine Community Foundation, is offering this new week-long learning opportunity for youth in the Rangeley area this summer: The Westerhoff/RFA Music Camp.

The day camp will take place on Aug. 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Other staff members include: David Iskowitz, Camp Leader and pianist, Music Director of Westerhoff School of Music and Art and on faculty at Drew University of Madison, NJ, and a graduate of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University; and Erin Smith, music teacher, choral and drama director at Rangeley Lakes Regional School and graduate of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, N.J.
