FARMINGTON – A group of 16 artists will be exhibiting their work at SugarWood Gallery during the month of January. This first of its kind exhibit is being held to showcase and make available the artists’ work, raise awareness of work by Maine artists, and raise funds for the continuing programs of the Maine Crafts Association.
An Open House Reception to welcome the artists and their work will be held at SugarWood Gallery, 248 Broadway, Farmington from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.
Participating artists, their hometown and medium are Peter Turner, South Portland – Furniture; Vicki Fox, Hancock – Rustic Art; Lynda McCann-Olson, Portland – Jewelry; Susan Horowitz, Harpswell – Pottery; Lee & Thom Ulrichsen, Saint Albans – Pottery; Lydia Rose, Dover-Foxcroft – Fine Art Painting; Natalie Ann Gardner, Palermo – Pottery; and Emily Delfin, Bangor – Jewelry.
Also participating are Liz Stefany, Carrabassett Valley – Jewelry; Kim Dailey, Carthage – Woodturning; Paige Pride, Portland – Pottery; Laurie Sterns, Brunswick – Wood Sculpture; Tyler Gulden, Walpole – Pottery; Karen Gola, Sanford – Glass; and Anne Walker, Rangeley – Fiber Art.
All of the artists’ work will remain on display and for sale at SugarWood Gallery through the month of January. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Maine Crafts Association, a nonprofit founded in 1983, is a Maine-based arts organization which creates opportunities for Maine artists to develop their professional careers through educational and marketing programs, as well as to increase their income through retail and wholesale sales.
For over 25 years, the Maine Crafts Association has served craft artists across the state with educational activities such as workshops and conferences, subsidized marketing opportunities, Haystack Workshop Weekend, Master Craft Awards, exhibition and demonstration opportunities, and access to markets such as wholesale and retail trade shows and seasonal stores and markets. In a state with a widespread population, MCA programming helps small Maine businesses intersect with Maine’s summer residents, visitors and larger marketplaces in Maine and New England.
The MCA’s most visible program, The Center for Maine Craft, opened in 2008, and currently represents more than 350 Maine craft artists and small businesses. The Center has a successful year round retail location, proudly contributing over $250,000 annually to the incomes of Mainers.
