Maine’s official Children’s Book Week Celebration is in Farmington this Saturday

bookscavenger_FARMINGTON – Maine’s official Children’s Book Week event will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers.

Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of children’s books and reading. Established in 1919, it is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. The program is administered by Every Child a Reader and the Children’s Book Council is the anchor sponsor. All 50 states each have a single official event. Maine’s official Children’s Book Week Celebration will be held on May 7 at DDG Booksellers.

A Downtown Book Scavenger Hunt will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. A puzzle solving challenge featuring three big prizes! The fastest five puzzlers to complete the challenge win a signed copy of the sensational middle grade novel Book Scavenger, by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman and a $25 DDG Gift Certificate.

The Picture Book Bonanza will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Two hours with three great Maine picture book athors. A read aloud and book signing featuring:Screen Shot 2016-05-04 at 9.48.50 AM

  • Margy Burns Knight, author of Talking Walls, Who Belongs Here, and Welcoming Babies!
  • Fran Hodgkins, author of The Secret Galaxy, Andre The Famous Harbor Seal, and Who’s been Here A Tale in Tracks!
  • Eva Murray, author of Island Birthday, Island Schoolhouse: One Room for All, and Well Out to Sea: Year-Round on Matinicus Island
