KINGFIELD – Weatherford Award nominated Meriwether O’Connor performs her humorous tall tales and short stories from Joe Potato’s Real Life Recipes during the Kingfield Artwalk on Friday, Nov. 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at High Peaks Artisan Guild at 245 Main St.

Known for the dark humor of her Appalachian and Texan tales and stories, O’Connor will read from her critically acclaimed book and chat with visitors. Story Circle Book Review called it an “extraordinary collection” and wrote “if it doesn’t cause at least one (perhaps astonished) belly laugh, you may need to get your sense of humor checked.”

O’Connor is just back from an unconventional book tour in the south where she interviewed people she met along the way for the national rural website, The Daily Yonder.

“We decided it would be fun to see what I could trade the book for on the trip,” O’Connor said. “Besides people’s life stories which I loved hearing, I traded for everything from a phone charger to bratwurst to help with my luggage to directions. I got to meet the audience in a whole new way.”

Books for signing may be purchased at the gallery that day or bought from Amazon beforehand and brought in.
