CHESTERVILLE – In the most honest sense of the word, Michael Cooper is an artist.
Combining the craft of mime, mask-making, storytelling, and movement, Cooper transforms himself and the space around him, creating characters, animals, and stories seemingly out of the very air. Cooper not only brings his beautiful hand-made masks to life, but he brings his audience with him, into a world where everything is slightly bigger than you might expect, funnier than you might think, and full of a kind of magic we tend to only dream about. Behind that magic, is a 35 year career in performance which has included training from legends of the mime world, travel around the globe, and an artist’s insight into the things that bring a sense of wonder to our common humanity.
On Saturday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Chesterville Center Union Meeting House, Michael Cooper will present a show entitled “Doc Cooper,” in a tribute to his father’s 60 year career as a rural Maine large animal veterinarian. The all ages performance will celebrate the life of “Honorary Mainer” and beloved local vet Doc Cooper, who touched the lives of so many during his lifetime of caring for the animals of western Maine, and the people that loved them.
Located at the corner of the Borough Road and the Zions Hill Road in Chesterville, the Chesterville Center Union Meeting House is a non-profit community resource. Admission to the performance is free, with donations gratefully accepted to support the Meeting House. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and seating is on a first-come first-serve basis. Refreshments will be served after the show.
