KINGFIELD – The Stadler Gallery at 225 Main Street is bringing its summer exhibition series to a close with works by Natalie Gardner of Palermo and Clif Travers of Brooklyn, N.Y. They will be on view from Aug. 24 to Sept. 13 daily from noon until 4 p.m. and by appointment.

Gardner’s passion is clay. With her exhibition, The Perfect Tea, she demonstrates her endeavor to find the perfect balance between function, beauty and comfort in handmade teapots.

“When tea is served,” she observed, “the visual effect of the vessel should be as rewarding as the actual tea itself.” With no desire to mass-produce pottery, she devoted the past 20 years exclusively to wheel thrown stoneware and porcelain clay with added sculptural elements. The beautifully glazed and oxidation fired vessels remind of smooth, round tea drops seeking their perfect pot.

Gardner graduated from Mount Wachusett Community College in 1996 with highest honors and the curriculum award in art. Her work was also chosen for the 2011 Bi-Annual Gifted Hand Show.

Travers is exhibiting two installation projects he has been working of for nearly 10 years. The Dream Tablets are large scale encaustic pieces painted on panels with oils and beeswax. The Medicine Cabinets were constructed of wood and include found objects. Both projects require manipulation by the viewer and, in some cases, participation giving the show its title “Touch This Art.”

Travers grew up in Kingfield. He studied at the University of Maine in Orono, Bradford College and the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston where he graduated. He is also a writer and performance artist.

There will be a reception for the artists on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 1-4 pm. Please view www.stadlergallery.com for more information.
