CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts will present PEI fiddle master Ward MacDonald and Friends at Acoustic Artisans in Portland on Monday, April 21; and at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage on Wednesday, April 23. Curtain is 7 p.m. at both locations. A pre-show jam at Skye Theatre will start at 6:15 p.m. The forth annual PEI Fiddle Camp Workshops will be held at Skye on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Ward MacDonald founder and executive director of the PEI Fiddle Camp will be in Maine for a series of shows leading up to weekend workshops at Skye Theatre on Sat Apr 26 and Sunday Apr 27. With Ward this year will be pipe master Ben Miller, and Cape Breton fiddler and step dancer Anita MacDonald. Expect a very high spirited presentation and performance.
Ward MacDonald grew up in the Scottish fiddling traditions of Prince Edward Island. His playing reflects four generations of family fiddling and is spiced with a unique blend of Cape Breton, Acadian, and Irish influences.
Ben Miller is a player of Scottish small pipes and Border pipes whose repertoire and style draw mainly on the Gaelic traditions of Western Scotland and the Canadian Maritimes, and blended with a healthy dash of Irish tunes for good measure.
Anita MacDonald is well respected as a Cape Breton fiddler and is a highly sought after player of Cape Breton dance tunes. Anita is a graduate of Cape Breton University in Gaelic studies and is a proficient Gaelic singer.
