Poetry and art to shine at Chesterville Meeting House beginning Sept. 30

CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Center Union Meeting House will be hosting a second Chesterville Poetry Night, an evening of poetry readings by Chesterville authors on Friday, Sept. 30, beginning at 7 p.m.

Following on the success of last year’s Poetry Night, the Meeting House walls will again echo with the voices of Chesterville poets reading their own work or the work of past Chesterville authors. Recalling last year’s event, Meeting House president Carolyn Drugge said, “We hadn’t realized so many talented writers were, here in our midst.  It was inspiring and powerful to hear their works read aloud in this historic building.”

Works read at the 2015 Poetry Night were collected and published in a booklet which has been well received by area residents. Meeting House organizers are excited to announce that a similar book will be published from this year’s poetry readings with permission of the authors.

But this year’s Poetry Night is just the beginning of a larger Arts Week which will showcase other artistic talents of Chesterville residents.  Paintings, drawings, photography and other works by Chesterville artists will be on display at the Meeting House during Poetry Night and again on Sunday Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday Oct. 8-9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment throughout that week.

The growing list of local artists displaying their work includes Margie Austin, Mark Tenney, Anstiss Morrill and Jeffra Hays.

Poetry Night and the Chesterville Art Open House are open to the public and free of charge. Donations are gratefully accepted to support the Meeting House and last year’s “An Evening of Poetry Readings” will be available for sale.
