Poet’s Corner: Red Zinnias

1 min read

Red Zinnias
by Carole Walker Trickett

Grow by my door,

raucous in their daily greeting

to passers by,

who exclaim with delight,

sometimes clap their hands

at this bold statement of life.

Nudging these red fading blooms,

with their deep rich purple,

are asters, a mark of fall.

The crickets chirp from deep within,

an antiphonal response to

the peepers of spring.
