MT. VERNON – The Sandy River Ramblers have been a crowd favorite at the Mt. Vernon Community Center for several years, and they’ll be bringing their unique blend of Bluegrass/Country/Folk music to Mt. Vernon again on May 27. The Ramblers feature the fiery instrumental stylings of Mandolinist Dan Simons and Bud Godsoe on Banjo, as well as wonderful three-part vocal harmony by Julie Davenport, Stan Keach and 14-year-old prodigy Dana Reynolds.

The band also features Keach’s wonderful original songs about Maine from their critically acclaimed CD, Cry of the Loon and other original songs about Maine. Maine writer/columnist George Smith has called the CD “a gift to Mainers.” Titles include: Logger’s Son; Boots From L. L. Bean; Northwoods Cabin; and Slow Down (You’ll Hit a Moose).

“We’ve got a new CD coming out this Spring,” says Keach. “It’ll be another collection of songs about Maine. We’ll do a few of them at the Mt. Vernon show.”

Most of the band is from the area: Simons lives in Vienna, Davenport grew up in Fayette, Keach lives in Rome, and Reynolds, a current Maranacook Community Middle Schooler, lives in Wayne.

The Mt. Vernon Community Center is on the shore of Minnehonk Lake, right across the street from the Mt. Vernon Fire Department. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Donations at the door will be appreciated. Refreshments will be available at intermission. For more information, call Stan at (207) 397-2241.
