CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Following a record-setting weekend in 2014, the largest spring skiing festival in the East, Sugarloaf’s Bud Light Reggae Festival, is set to return April 10-12. A New England native group, Stick Figure, will headline the three-day festival, the resort announced today.
Now in its 27th year, the annual Bud Light Reggae Festival is one of the most highly anticipated events of the season, drawing hundreds of spring skiing and reggae music enthusiasts for a weekend filled with non-stop live music, wild parties, and abundant corn snow that has made Sugarloaf’s spring skiing famous.
Hailing from Duxburry Mass., Stick Figure, the one-man show turned quartette, has been redefining reggae dub since 2006. Launched by Scott Woodruff, Stick Figure, relocated to Santa Barbra CA., in 2009. Woodruff single-handedly created four full-length albums between 2006 and 2012, before rallying together a full live-band and embarking on their first national tour in 2012.
Stick Figure draws inspiration from Bob Marley, John Brown’s Body, Slightly Stoopid and other greats, to create a symphonic collaboration of reggae roots and dub, by layering tracks of individually recorded instruments on top of one another in unison.
The band’s unique sound has been put on the map thanks to five full-length albums, four national tours, and two songs currently in the top 100 on iTunes’ Reggae chart.
Stick Figure will headline a group of eights reggae artists, including Boston-based Renegade SoundStation, who will return to headline the Friday-night Reggae Rave on April 10. Now in its fourth year, the Reggae Rave will run from 9 p.m. – 12 a.m. in the King Pine Room and will feature professional lighting and sound, bringing a night club experience to the Sugarloaf Base Lodge.
Halifax-based, Dub Kartel will kick off the weekend of live performances on Thursday April 9, in the Widowmaker Lounge. Non-stop live reggae music will continue throughout the weekend with performances by Roots Rhythm and Dub, Soul Rebel Project, CatchaVibe, and outdoor shows on Saturday by Renegade SoundStation, Kiwi, and Build a Machine.
All outdoor music on the Beach will be free and open to all ages, and Friday night’s Reggae Rave will be $5 and open to anyone 21 or over.
Good Vibes passes for Saturday night’s performance by Stick Figure are $25 when purchased in advance or $35 on the day of the show. Saturday night tickets will provide access to both the King Pine Room and the Widowmaker Lounge.
New this year, festival goers can purchase a “VIP Pass,” in addition to their Good Vibes Pass, for exclusive access to a VIP area, complementary hor d’oeuvres, and exclusive VIP bar in the Widowmaker Lounge.
Thursday and Friday night’s performances in the Widowmaker Lounge are $5 at the door, and open to anyone 21 and older.
No outside alcohol may be brought into any venue, and all bags and coolers are subject to search.
All-inclusive ski and stay packages are also available for Reggae Weekend starting as low as $125 per person per night, and include lodging, lift ticket, access to the Sugarloaf Sports and Fitness Center, and a Good Vibes Pass providing access to live performances in the Widowmaker Lounge and King Pine Room on Saturday night.
