FARMINGTON – The Emery Community Arts Center on the University of Maine at Farmington campus offers music under the stars with a summer concert on the lawn Thursday, July 28. Bring your blanket and lawn chairs and kick back with a picnic lunch to listen to the folk sounds of Jud Caswell and Golden Oak. The lawn opens at 6:30 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. There will be a cash bar. Admission is $5.

Maine’s Jud Caswell is a little bit like a one-man folk festival. You’ve got your banjo picking, your Irish drinking songs, a rack of acoustic instruments, and a deep catalog of award-winning originals. Caswell is currently celebrating the release of his sixth collection, “Watch The Fall.” This is his first CD of new material since 2007. The years between have been full of music and focusing on family, friends and community. The album reflects that focus. Early listeners have called it “homey and groovy and uplifting and thoughtful” — a “celebration of life, love, family, and all that is wonderful about mid-coast Maine.”

Named one of Maine’s “rising artists” by the Nova Design Group, Golden Oak just released their debut album, “Pleasant St.” and have performed throughout the greater New England area. Conceived in the winter of 2013 by singer-songwriter Zak Kendall and cellist Seth Wegner, they were quick to join forces with Kendall’s sister Lena, whose voice blends with the hum of the cello and guitar to create a sound that resonates deep within.

More recently, they have teamed up with their good friend Eloise Schultz, who Zak and Seth met while studying at College of the Atlantic, and who gives their songs yet another set of layers with her soaring trumpet and vocal harmonies. Members include Zak Kendall (guitar, lead vocals), Lena Kendall (percussion, lead vocals), Seth Wegner (cello, vocals), and Eloise Schultz (trumpet, vocals).

This summer event is sponsored by the Emery Community Arts Center.
