From September 9-11 six concert performances will be held throughout the western Maine region. Venues include: The United Methodist Church in Bethel and The Green Church Concert Series in Mexico on Wednesday, Sept. 9; Route 27 Arts in Stratton and The Farmington Historical Society’s North Church Concerts in Farmington on Thursday, Sept 10; Old South Congregational Church in Farmington and Phillips Area Community Center in Phillips on Friday, Sept 11.

Western Maine has an abundance of quaint churches and community halls that have become a rich source of live music performance over the past dozen years thanks in part to the efforts of “music man” Phill McIntyre. What started out to be monthly gathering of Celtic music lovers has blossomed over the years to become a tightly knit sisterhood of small halls and the regular stopping place for touring artists from all over the planet. “It has grown from a faithful few to a large following of fans who have rediscovered the music of their youth or of their heritage,” said McIntyre.

This year’s Western Maine Music Week will include Canadian master fiddlers and step dancers, Troy MacGillivray and Andrea Beaton; Juno award winning Folk singer Old Man Luedecke from Chester, Nova Scotia; and Maine’s own Contradance favorites, T’Acadie. T’ Acadie will close out the festival in Phillips on Friday night with Bill Olson calling the dancers.

A complete schedule of the performance locations with directions and reservation information can be found at the NECA website http://www.necelticarts.com or calling 207-562-4445. All start times are at 7 p.m. All tickets are $15 adults, $5 youth 18 and under. Family rates are also available.
