RANGELEY – The Shed BBQ, in Rangeley, has expanded more than threefold this summer. Owner Martin Wilson has operated the former open-air barbecue stand for several years. He had an opportunity to expand this year and jumped on it.

It was a leap of faith that more people needed barbecue more often – the essence of summer vacation protocol in Rangeley. The results have been fantastic, according to Martin. Business is steadily growing by word of mouth and by the allure of the smoke wafting from The Shed on Main Street.

The Shed is great for family dining with a fenced-in yard, sand box, load of picnic tables and views of the lake. The menu includes seafood and vegetarian options as well as the usual barbecue fare and even kid-sized “Shed minis.” Thursdays are “good times” at The Shed with special pricing on wings, minis, samplers, and beer and win.

Wilson, a native of British Columbia, Canada, was a ski coach who traveled year-round following the snow. Now settled in Rangeley with his family, ski coaching is limited to the winter and his summers are filled with serving up the best barbecue in the region with his secret sauce and rub recipes and a wicked dry Canadian sense of humor. His ever-changing chalkboard roadside signs are worth slowing down to read!

The Shed is located at 2647 Main Street across from the Town & Lake Motel and is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 AM to 9 PM and Sundays 4-8 PM to eat in or carry out.

Like The Shed menu says, “Long live BBQ. Real. Good. BBQ.” Don’t let the smoke get in your eyes!
