FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Children’s Task Force is proud to announce it has been awarded the 2016 Bangor Savings Bank Community Matters More top prize of $5,000 for the Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin County region.

The award was presented Tuesday to the staff by Becky Davis-Allen, Vice President at Bangor Savings Bank

“We are just so excited to be able to provide this support to FCCTF to continue the programming that this community finds so valuable,” Davis-Allen said. “Strengthening the family framework benefits the community in many ways. This award is due to the tremendous efforts of the staff to get the word out to vote and speaks to the public recognition of the organization’s impact on our local health initiative for the long-term. I’m very pleased to see a small, grassroots organization like the Task Force awarded the grant. I know they will squeeze every ounce of value out of it.”

The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation’s Community Matters More program is a grant-making initiative that awards a total of $100,000 in grants to 68 Maine non-profit organizations each year. The funds are awarded with Maine residents casting thousands of votes for the nonprofit organizations they wish to support.

“Franklin County’s children will benefit from this award immensely,” said Renee Whitley, Executive Director of the Children’s Task Force. “Funding will allow us to provide hands on educational opportunities that wouldn’t normally be possible for students living in Franklin County. Our focus in the coming two years is to increase the opportunities for parents to engage in a meaningful way with their child in school, the community and in their social environments.”

This award comes on the heels of the Children’s Task Force being awarded the 21st Century Grant which has driven the new collaboration with RSU 9 providing The 21st Century Kids of F.R.A.N.K.L.I.N.. A free after school enrichment program for children kindergarten through 5th grade.

This program, and the support of the Bangor Savings Bank Community Matters More Foundation will create opportunities for the hands on learning of students in all of Franklin County well as 30 new full and part-time jobs in the Farmington and Wilton areas.
