CMP donates money for trade student scholarships

1 min read

The Maine Blue Collar Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce Central Maine Power is donating $10,000 to support scholarships for high school graduates in Maine. The scholarships will provide financial assistance to students pursuing a career in the trades.

“The average age of Maine trade workers is rising. We need to reinvigorate the workforce here in our state,” said Danielle Moody, director of the Maine Blue Collar Scholarship Foundation. “Our foundation is about breaking down barriers and investing in the future of Maine.”

The scholarships cover a variety of fields including welding, plumbing, automotive repair, construction, horticulture, and electrical line work. In 2020 alone, the program awarded 80 scholarships totaling more than $75,000 to Maine students.

“Students in the Electrical Lineworker Technology Program at Kennebec Valley Community College are among the many scholars who benefit from the foundation and we are proud to employ many graduates of the program,” said CMP Executive Chairman David Flanagan. “The demand for these jobs is high, but there aren’t enough trained students in Maine to fill them. The time has come to reverse that trend.”

The scholarships can be used for tools, books, uniforms, tuition and housing. The recipients for 2020 will be announced in June.

  1. Millions spent for months of propaganda advertisements followed by a token for trade school scholarships. Overwhelming generosity towards our future Mainiacs. Stunning.

  2. Thanks, CMP, for your donation to this great scholarship foundation that helps so many young people in Maine. Next up? Broadband for our counties, jobs for Mainers, and free money to help Mt Blue RSU’s yearly budget woes. Count me in!

  3. To blue collor mom,
    is there anybody in there?

    News just for you,,
NO SUCH THING AS “FREE MONEY”,,hunny.

CMP has and still is screwing customers on their bills and instead of fixing that,, they coddle up some bread crumbs like this to make a fool out of people that believe them.

    FREE MONEY,,, HAHAHAHA!!!
    Ya right!!

  4. to BlueCollarMom,

You call it “free money” and sign you up huh?
Well it’s NOT Free Money,, It’s STOLEN Money.

It’s money that belongs to the many many customers who are getting screwed on their bills and cannot get an answer.
This is causing financial hardship for some on fixed incomes.
It’s money that CMP used to “delay” the class action lawsuit against them by these “customers”. (Rather than fix the problem).
    It’s called Hush Money.
    And its worked,,,so far.

That money could relieve since of the hardship CMPs billing debacle is causing many of its customers.
    But thats not you, right.
    So far…..

This is why Maine People are stepping in.
    Helping other Maine People.
Unlike CMP who continues to deserve their DEAD LAST RATING IN CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WHOLE NATION.

  5. Wow…..OK Folks: I always support education and student scholarships to further their education. However, when I read this article about CMP donating $10,000 towards Trade Student Scholarships, I immediately thought……hmm, where was CMP and their money for Maine Scholarships in the PAST YEARS??!! Now I may stand to be corrected, if indeed they have contributed in the past to Maine Scholarships. If not,Folks, I question CMP`s motive in this instance. I am being socially polite in saying, could the CMP Scholarship money have anything to do with the upcoming VOTE on the, “Proposed,” CMP Corridor through North & Western Maine???!!!
I will definitely be voting AGAINST the CMP Corridor in November 2020 and I invite the people throughout Maine to also VOTE AGAINST the CMP Corridor!
