Community Concepts awarded grant to free install energy monitors
LEWISTON - Community Concepts, Inc. (CCI), has been awarded a grant for Energy Efficiency Innovation from the Efficiency Maine Trust. The grant will allow the agency to install home energy monitors and conduct audits to improve electrical efficiency in residences throughout Maine. With the high cost of electricity in Maine, this program intends to provide homeowners with tools and information to reduce their consumption.
Electrical audits will be conducted and homeowners will be provided with recommendations for reducing their electrical consumption. The home energy monitor will provide real time feedback of the homeowner’s electrical usage. “Homeowners could see their consumption drop by 10 to 15 percent just by watching the monitor and changing their habits,” said CCI energy specialist Emily Mottram.
The agency intends to start taking requests for audits in February. The program does not have any income qualifications and is open to any single family home with four or more occupants.
Community Concepts, Inc has previously partnered with Efficiency Maine to help provide audits and general contracting for their Home Energy Savings Program. Community Concepts, Inc. is a not-for-profit community action agency that provides housing, economic development and social services to people in Maine. Our mission is to: “Provide leadership, education and support to build thriving individuals, families and communities.”
If you would like more information on the program, please contact Marcy Boughter 333-6419 in the Housing and Energy Department at Community Concept, Inc. 240 Bates Street, Lewiston.

Why four or more occupants? I would imagine that there are a lot of elderly singles and couples that could use the service. For that matter how about a couple with one child. Doesn't make sense to restrict it to four or more.
