Farmington selectman appointed to MMA board

AUGUSTA – Ellsworth City Manager Michelle Beal will become the next president of Maine Municipal Association and Stephan Bunker, a Farmington selectman, is MMA’s incoming vice president.

Beal, who began her municipal career as Ellsworth’s treasurer in 1995, will assume the presidency following MMA’s Annual Convention, to be held on Oct. 1 & 2. Bunker will become vice president of the association and is scheduled to assume the presidency in January 2016.

Bunker of Farmington,  retired a few years ago from his position as operations manager for Maine’s Emergency Services Bureau (E9-1-1). He has held many public positions over a 45-year career. He is a member of the Farmington Fire Rescue Department, serves on the Maine Fire Protection Services Commission, is the municipal representative on the state’s E-911 advisory council and is a retired Lt. Commander with the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves.

In other MMA election results, Orono Town Councilor Cynthia Mehnert will join the Executive Committee next January for a three-year term. Kennebunkport Town Manager Laurie Smith and Chapman Selectwoman Patricia Sutherland, who already serve on the committee, also were re-elected to three-year terms that start in January.
