Note: This program has been canceled. However, Voice Coaches wants to reschedule for the spring semester. Interested parties should still contact the Adult Education program.

FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue Regional School District Adult & Community Education will partner with Voice Coaches, a voice over training company, to bring “Getting Paid to Talk” to the Farmington area on Monday, Oct. 27.

The single-evening class is being offered through the adult education program and Voice Coaches, an Albany, N.Y. company that specializes in training and supporting voice over artists. Attendees will learn everything from the basics of getting started, working in the studio, effective demo production methods, and industry pros and cons, to where to look for opportunities in and around their community and how to land the job. They will also have the opportunity to record a mock commercial under the direction of a Voice Coaches producer.

“It’s an upbeat but realistic introduction to the field of voice acting,” said David Bourgeois, president and creative director of Voice Coaches.

Bourgeois said the program was a good fit for adults, especially those who might have been told they have a good voice.

Chris Scharling, a producer and trainer for Voice Coaches, is expected to teach the class. A career voice over production professional, Scharling has lent his voice to numerous commercials and narrations and developed audio content for video games including Guitar Hero, Marvel Ultimate Alliance II, and Transformers as well as children’s hit Lalaloopsy.

Advancements in technology have led to expanding opportunities for voice acting artists, with less than 10 percent of voice acting jobs now relating to commercials. In most cases, a person’s voice will portray the broadest voice age range well into adulthood.

Registration  in advance is required, and enrollment is limited to just 25 students. Register by calling 207-778-3460. Class fee is $20.
