JAY – Firefighter Darren Roundy was named Firefighter of the Year for the Jay Fire Department at a department meeting Monday, Feb. 4.

Roundy has served the department both as a firefighter and previously as a lieutenant training officer. In a release, Public Safety Director Larry White Sr. called Roundy “very active” in the department and willing to help his fellow firefighters.

“As training lieutenant he was instrumental in revamping the fire department training records,” White said. “He also did a great job in scheduling training for the department.”

White credited Roundy as playing a “major role” in the department obtaining the Maine Department of Labor’s Safety and Health Award for Public Safety.

“Darren always knows what has to be done and gets the task accomplished,” White said. “He is well respected by his fellow fire fighter and area fire departments.”
