CARRABASSETT VALLEY- While many other parts of the state saw rain last week, Sugarloaf was collecting snow like it was going out of style.

Mother Nature gave Sugarloaf’s snowmakers a break and dumped 14-18 inches across the mountain over a 24-hour period last week, which makes 21-25 inches of new snow in the last 7 days. Saturday’s storm brought another 7 inches for a 32-inch base total.

Although it wasn’t light, blower powder, we’ll be reaping the benefits of this storm long into the spring. All the new, base-building snow has significantly aided our efforts to expand open terrain. Currently the ski area has 70 open trails spanning 384 acres.
