CARRABASSETT VALLEY – On Wednesday, Feb. 17, Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) will be hosting two unique learning sessions addressing winter sports academy academics and the college preparatory and admissions process. Sessions will start at 2 p.m. on CVA’s King Cummings Campus.

Session 1: Exploring Successful Sports Academy Learning – 2-3 p.m.

A successful sports academy student-athlete is a master of time management, an advocate for their own learning, and they graduate as independent young adults prepared for college. This program brings together parents and students for an interactive look into sports academy academics and its approach to learning.

Attendees will enjoy a unique opportunity to observe classes, talk with academy teachers and lead administrators, and see students and teachers in action. The goal of this program is to give parents and students the opportunity to have their questions answered and feel confident in understanding a sports academy education.

3-3:15 p.m. Refreshments

Session 2: The college admissions process: what you need to know from an insider’s perspective – 3:15-4:15 p.m.

This panel discussion will include insight about the college admissions process, what colleges are looking for, and how to make the process less daunting. Dartmouth alumni interviewer Dr. Arthur Pierce, will share insights on how best to prepare for an interview and Sam Pelletier, Assistant Director of Admissions at Colby, will share tips on how to make your application stand out. CVA Alumni will also be in attendance to share how the rigor of the sports academy lifestyle translates into success in college and life. Each panelist will share their insight, with time for a Q&A at the end of the session.
