Local business saves the day

Bomazeen Cub Scout Day Camp participants thank Top of the Hill Grill owner Lorna Nichols for stepping in to help.
Bomazeen Cub Scout Day Camp was devastated yesterday, July 27, when, with 12 hours notice, a national restaurant chain backed out of a BBQ luncheon for 300 campers, staff, and family members.
Luckily, a local business was able to save the day. With only four hours notice, Lorna Nichols and her staff at the Top of the Hill Grill in New Sharon were able to fill in. They put together and delivered a BBQ containing great items such as pulled pork, beans, potato salad and much more.
The scouts, staff, and families couldn’t have been better fed and all send their thanks.

And that's why it pays to shop locally!!!! Nicely done!
This does NOT surprise me at all!! The Nichols family is one of the hardest working families I have ever met. Great job!!
Just another reason why it is so important to support local businesses. They have an interest in maintaining investment in the community through commitment, and service. We all need to make sure that our dollars are spent locally so that we can insure that all the businesses that we love are able to stay here. It was great that Top of the Hill came through! Let's not wait until it's too late to show all of our local shop owners how much we appreciate them by spending our dollars at down town businesses.
Outstanding! The food was Excellent! They even delivered!
Thank you for making this happen on such short notice...
and Thank you to all those who helped with the cost.

That is AWESOME.
This is IMPRESSIVE !!!!
Lots of things like this happen LOCALLY all the time.
I haven't been to the Top Of the Hill Grill in a while,,,I'll be there very soon as you not only serve great food,,,You EARN our business.
I'd like to see one of the "We Shop Away and We're Not Apologizing" crowd come on here and keep yapping your yap about your "opinion" about not getting a good enough "deal" locally...
What happened here is EXACTLY what "LOCAL" means.
There is more to it than you detractors even know about (because you really dont want to,,well you miss out).
If you still dont see the VALUE of SUPPORTING LOCAL,,then keep shopping at "Clueless Are Us".
The National Chain Backed Out,,,wow imagine that...
Good Job Lorna,,
You're a trooper (just like Scott).
Spectacular! Kudos to Top of the Hill, and their sense of community. I can't wait to come and try your restaurant.
Very nice. Good job Nichols family.
What an awesome thing to do, Great job to top of the hill grill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much! 300 unfed Scouts and families would be a disaster of epic proportions! Top of the Hill Grill, you are wonderful!
So what big chain pulled out? If they can't support locally, then they don't deserve locals business.
Tell us who the "national chain" was, so we can avoid doing business with them. Why have they not been identified?
They are probably unable to identify the company as a way of covering their bums. You think a national restaurant chain would have trouble starting litigation for libel? They likely already have lawyers on their payroll for it. Our little local online paper, however, is unlikely to share that litigious advantage.
I say let it just serve as a reminder that the local business owner is far more invested in providing good product and service as they have a lot more to lose, and it serve's the scouts right for not shopping locally in the first place. Just think how much easier an experience it would have been if they had worked with Top of the Hill from the start.
That is why we should all buy locally.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's this kind of civic-mindedness that keeps us recommending that all our staff support local businesses with their hard-earned dollars. One of the pillars of a functional society is when businesses and nonprofits partner in supporting one another. Big kudos to the staff and management at Top o' the Hill Grill...see you on the 18th at our golf benefit at Sandy River Golf Club!
Not surprised as this is just the type of thing that they would do. Great job.
I for one was so thankful for Top of the Hill Grill! I was so upset that the national BBQ chain (that shall remain nameless) from Central Maine had such poor customer service. The BBQ from Lorna was absolutely wonderful! We all went away from the day with bellies full of wonderful food. She was a super hero to so many Scouting families in Central Maine! Thanks to Lorna and thanks you to the Daily Bulldog for passing on this wonderful story!
Wow!! I have never eaten at Top of The Hill, but will bring my large family there to eat very soon. I am thankful for people like you who genuinely care and step up to help. You are a blessing to our community.
And in response to the "who was the other business" question: It doesn't really matter who it was. It may have nothing to do with litigation or covering their buts. It's much more likely that the Scout Camp leaders and the Nichols have integrity and don't want to say anything bad about other businesses. We don't know the circumstances of why they backed out. Let's just focus on the good that these people have done and move on.
Thank you Top of the Hill Grill and all of the staff there who worked their tails off to save the day!!! May you be so blessed!
