Maine Woods Tourism Training Initiative to provide customer service workshop

FARMINGTON – No matter what business you are in, the secret to gaining a competitive edge is by differentiating your business from your competitors, through promoting a business culture which recognizes people as the greatest untapped resources of any business or organization.

On June 17, the Maine Woods Tourism Training Initiative will be hosting Marilynne Mann, instructor in the School of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Management at Husson University for a one of a kind workshop focusing on managing for great customer service.
The Service Profit Chain Model is relevant to both internal and external customers and Mann will use this as a frame of reference to discuss the importance of delivering quality service. Welcome ME will be used as the foundation for training and empowering qualified staff.

Mann is an instructor at Husson University in the School of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Management. She has a BS in Park and Natural Resource Management and a MS in Parks, Recreation and Tourism from the University of Maine. Professional certifications include Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) and Certification in Hotel Business Acumen (HBA). Past work experience includes corporate marketing with a Fortune 500 Company, co-ownership of a restaurant, and directing a tourism research center. During the past two summers she has worked in the industry to keep her skills and industry contact real and active.

The workshop will cover such areas as delivering quality service using standards that meet the needs of guests, developing the right employees through training, involving staff in the process of creating product, developing feedback systems and rewarding employees.

The workshop will take place at the University of Maine at Farmington in North Dining Hall A. Lunch will be served. There will be a charge of $10 per person with a discount given if several from one business attend.
