Phillips_Farmers_Markt_logoPHILLIPS – The Phillips Farmers Market launches its season on Saturday, May 28. Held at the American Legion Hall on Depot Street, the market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through September.

Founded six years ago by Dick Stovall and Pam Matthews, the market has expanded each year and has grown to offer a wide variety of locally produced products. Those include vegetables and fruits, a variety of jams and relishes, fudge and chocolates, honey and maple syrup, locally baked goods, including pies and other treats, (such as Winona Davenport’s locally famous popovers), to organic bread produced by Donna Chamberlain’s Maine Cottage Foods. The market also sells eggs and a limited variety of meats.

Several vendors at the Phillips market offer crafts and other products as well, including alpaca-fiber items from one of Phillips’ newest farms, Alpacaville: mittens, socks, knitted hats, and other alpaca products. Another vendor, Sandy River Gardens, offers a variety of perennial plants for sale.

The market is run by an informal committee of vendors. Donna Chamberlain (Dick Stovall passed away in April 2014) says new vendors are always welcome. Cost of a set up at the market on Depot Street is $5 for a table attended by the vendor, or a $10 commission for those who wish to drop off their products and have them sold by market workers. All fees collected either defray market costs or are redistributed to various community projects in the Phillips area.

For more information or to join the market, call Donna Chamberlain at 639-2221, or Winona Davenport at 639-4296.
