RANGELEY – The Rangeley Comprehensive Plan Committee will conduct an information meeting on the draft of the new comprehensive plan on Monday, July 9,from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The session will be held at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School.

“The purpose of the session is to provide the public with the opportunity to hear about what is the draft Rangeley Comprehensive Plan and to give the committee feedback,” Comprehensive Planning Committee Vice Chair Rob Welch said.

The Plan has been in development for more than two years. Over that time the Comprehensive Plan Committee has been given input from the public at two sessions held last summer and from many groups and individuals. That information has been used extensively by the committee in the development of the Rangeley Comprehensive Plan.

“One only needs to look at the plan’s vision statement to get a feel of how public input was incorporated in to the plan,” said Dennis Marquis, the committee’s vice chairman. A portion of the vision statement reads, “In one sense, in the future Rangeley will be like it is today. Its ‘brand’ will be retained. There will be outstanding clean air and water, large remote areas, scenic views of lakes and mountains, a sky that is dark at night, peace and quiet, wild brook trout, and bountiful wildlife. Seasonal residents and tourist will continue to come to Rangeley mainly to enjoy the unique natural resources that they share with those that live here year round. Rangeley will continue to be a ‘real small town’ with big town public services. Businesses will have continued the personal connection with year rounders and visitors.”

To be facilitated by John Maloney from Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, the session will present an overview of the major components of the Rangeley Comprehensive Plan as well as responding to public comments and ideas.

“This is an important part in updating the 1997 comprehensive plan for the Town of Rangeley. This is the Town’s Plan not the committee’s,” Welch said. “We hope both year round and seasonal residents will come and talk with your neighbors and help us shape the future of our Town.”

Copies of the Draft Plan are available at the Town Office and/or can be viewed at AVCOG.org.
