RANGELEY – The Rangeley Oktoberfest Weekend, which will be held Thursday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 2, include activities that range from a Brat & Strudel contest to Stein Hoisting competitions to special menus at many restaurants in Rangeley and Oquossoc to the Maine Forestry Museum’s 23rd Annual Apple Festival.

Rangeley Oktoberfest weekend kicks off with the annual Brat & Strudel contest on Thursday, Sept. 29, sponsored by the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce. This event will again be held at The Rangeley Inn, from 5 to 7 p.m. Entrants will put forth their best brat and strudel and the public is invited to taste samples from all participants. Each attendee will receive a free commemorative Rangeley Oktoberfest mug and tastings of all brat and strudel entries. Winners will earn bragging rights based on voting by both the public and a panel of expert judges. Brat and strudel entrants confirmed at press time include the following: Blue Orchid, Classic Provisions, Forks in the Air, Gingerbread House Restaurant, Inner Eye, Moose Alley, Rangeley IGA, The Rangeley Tavern, Sarge’s and The Shed.

The Rangeley Oktoberfest events continue throughout the weekend and highlights are provided below:

Thursday, Sept. 29:
6 p.m. – Stein Hoisting Semifinals at Rangeley Inn & Tavern (2443 Main St., Rangeley)

Friday, Sept. 30:
SoJo’s Scarecrow Ball. Take a stroll down High Street during Oktoberfest and vote for your favorite scarecrow!

Autumn BBQ Sampler: Noon to 3 p.m. at Blue Flame/Rangeley Fireplace & Stove Co. BBQ sampler & drinks (2497 Main St., Rangeley)

Autumn Beer Tasting with Appetizers: 4 to 6 p.m. at Classic Provisions (2485 Main St., Rangeley)

Prizes: All visitors are encouraged to pick up a copy of the Oktoberfest brochure at any of the local participating businesses and then get brochures stamped at participating businesses. Stamped brochures must be dropped off at the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce (6 Park Road, Rangeley) by noon on Sunday, Oct. 2 to qualify for the prize drawing.
