AUGUSTA – Rep. Paul Gilbert, D-Jay, will serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Labor and Economic Development Committee.

The appointment was made by Speaker of the House Mark Eves.

“I am very proud to serve on this committee,” said Gilbert. “I look forward to sharing ideas and practices concerning labor issues with legislators from other states.”

The Labor and Economic Development Committee covers state and federal issues related to labor, employment, workforce, economic development, international trade and cultural affairs. It is one of the NCSL’s standing committees that educates Congress and federal agencies about state concerns and serves as a forum for state legislators and legislative staff to learn about and share information regarding programs and initiatives in other states.

NCSL is a national organization that serves the interests of state legislatures by providing states support, ideas, and connections for policy and effectiveness.

Gilbert is serving his fourth term in the Maine House and represents Jay, Livermore Falls and part of Livermore. He serves on the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee.

  1. I can’t think of better representation for Maine workers; Paul deserves a lot of credit for the work he has done. I am delighted to have him sharing his expertise at the national level as well.

  2. Congratulations Paul!! You have always had the very best interest of the people in any, and all, decisions you have made. I know you will do very well on this committee!

  3. Paul with all your years of service in the Department of Labor, helping both businesses and job seekers, I know that you will be a great asset to this committee as well as helping the citizens of Maine. Thank you for taking on this challenge for us.

  4. Congratulations Paul! Good luck on this new appointment. I do hope you and others can find a way to keep the jobs we have here in Maine and also bring more to this great state. In my opinion there is one major thing every Representative in this state should wake up and think about in the morning and that is how to get competitive pricing on energy in Maine. We need to get a grip on the out of control prices of natural gas in the winter or the businesses that are here and having a hard time getting through the winters will fold. Paul should know this as the Verso Mill in his town is one of them. Again good luck!
