Sugarloaf picks up 10 inches of snow, just before February Vacation

CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Though local forecasts called for just a few inches on Monday night, Sugarloaf awoke to nearly a foot of new snow on Tuesday morning—the highest total reported by any ski resort in New England. The new snow brings the resort’s total to more than a foot in the past week, providing the best skiing and riding conditions of the season, just in time for the upcoming February Vacation week.

Last night’s snow allowed Sugarloaf to open 15 new trails, with more possible later this week. And with colder temperatures expected later in the week, the resort plans to resume snowmaking operations on Thursday.

“We weren’t expecting much more than a couple inches out of this storm, so you can say that we were pleasantly surprised this morning,” said Karl Strand, Sugarloaf’s General Manager. “With more than a foot of new snow in the last week, and snowmaking expected to resume on Thursday, we’ll be heading into February Vacation week with the best conditions we’ve seen all winter.”

Event organizers have planned a robust schedule of fun family activities for the busy vacation week, including fireworks, s’mores roasting with Amos the Moose and company, a moonlight climb to Bullwinkle’s, performances by Maine comedian Bob Marley, a rail jam, and more.

The resort will also host their first-ever Family First Tracks on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 a.m. For just $25 per person, guests will enjoy an exclusive first tracks experience on the Whiffletree Trail, complete with coffee, hot chocolate, and breakfast goodies in Moose Alley.
