The new Old Ford Antiques offering pretty much everything

FARMINGTON – Everything old is new again at the new antique and collectible shop on the Wilton Road, in more ways than one.

The store’s vendors specialize in different sorts of antiques.

Old Ford Antiques & Collectibles opened 6 months ago at 361 Wilton Road, next to Aubuchon’s Hardware. With 10 dealers pooling their resources to sell a wide variety of antique and collectible items, the store has grown popular enough to begin expanding to make room for additional vendors.

Many of the Old Ford vendors were part of a larger second-hand group that operated out of the department store space at the Mt. Blue Shopping Center, which recently became the Big Lots! store. When that closed, some of the vendors moved across the Wilton Road into the current location. The Old Ford name harkens back to the Ford dealership that operated from behind the building’s wide windows.

Dave Clark has more than 30 years experience buying and selling antiques and was an auctioneer in Skowhegan. Like most of the vendors at Old Ford, Clark said, running the shop is more than a job.

“I’ve always enjoyed antiques and older items,” Clark said. Like most vendors, he makes several trips a year to find caches of old items to sell.

While popular types of antiques can vary from day to day, Clark said, decorator items are currently selling well. Old Ford Antiques’ vendors maintain a stock of old, decorative items, as well as kitchenware, tools, coins, jewelry and more. One recent acquisition is a large collection of antique Coca-Cola memorabilia, which Clark and the others hope will be a big seller for the Christmas season.

The store is in the process of expanding, with workers installing drywall in the back half of the building to prepare for more incoming vendors.

The store is open 7 days a week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to buying and selling antiques, the store also buys gold and silver.
