FARMINGTON – A program that puts a more efficient water heater in qualifying homes will come to a close on June 12, with 15 tanks still available. Participants are now able to keep their existing water heaters.

Homeowners are eligible for the Western Maine Community Action program if: there are 2 or more people in the household, the household has an electric water heater (50 gallons or less), the heater is in an unheated space, the location of the water heater is open to at least 100 sq. feet (a 10×10 room for example), there is at least a 6-foot ceiling, and the applicant meets the income guidelines (seen above) and are able to provide documentation, such as a tax return.

Those meeting these criteria and interested in receiving a new, more efficient water heater, should call 860-4452 and leave a message. WMCA will contact callers to confirm information and answer any questions.

Once WMCA has documented income, the agency will provide the information to the vendor who will schedule an installation. Based on the set up of the site and other conditions, the vendor will make the final determination regarding eligibility.
