175th Farmington Fair opens Sunday

FARMINGTON – The 175th annual Farmington Fair is ready to roll this weekend, featuring laser tag, barrel racing and ‘Drag Your Neighbor’ as well as a fireworks show Sunday evening.

“This is a monumental year for us and we, of course, think it will be the best fair ever,” said Tom Sawyer, vice president of the association.

Events planned for this year’s fair include the return of some of last year’s favorites, such as G-Force Laser Tag and barrel racing, as well as old standbys like horse and oxen pulls, livestock shows and the Miss Farmington Fair contest. A fireworks show will mark the conclusion of the first day of the fair, beginning at dusk.

Special events include Monday’s Agriculture Education Day, featuring $15 a Midway Ride Special from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m., Danny Taylor & Taylor Made Music as well as Drag Your Neighbor.

Sept. 22 brings $2 Tuesday: $2 at the gate, $2 per ride, as well as a baking competition, Lori Pelletier Bonnevie, the annual Firemen’s Muster and pro-wrestling.

Wednesday features a $20 Midway Ride Special, running from 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. Horse twitching & Scooting, a draft horse pull and a horse vs. oxen event headline a busy day at the pulling ring.

Thursday brings the annual Sheep Show, truck and tractor pulls, as well as Lighthouse Jubilee and two walkabout bagpipers. Seniors ages 62 and up get in for $2.

The fair will play host to a variety of agricultural events Friday, including horse pulls, the annual Beef Exhibit, the 4-H Goat Show and more Truck/Tractor Pull. Live music will be provided by the Off the Hill Band.

Saturday is the Demolition Derby at the large grandstand, sponsored by NAPA Auto & Truck Parts, Hight Chevrolet, Farmington Ford and Health Quest Chiropractic. Shavings are provided by Irving Forest Products of Dixfield and portable communication is donated by Hussey Communication of Winslow. Other events include Dairy Goat Show, Youth Poultry Show, Oxen Pull, Draft Horse Show, 3 Horse Hitch Pull and Mutton Bustin’ Kids (7-8 years).

This year, the weekly ticket prices will be as follows:
Adult Week Pass – $35. Admits one person (age 12 years and up). This does not include parking.
Youth Week Pass – $10. Admits one person (age 8-11 years old).
Family Ticket – $60. Admits purchaser, significant other and minor children (under 18 years). Doesn’t include voting/parking.
Voting Member Ticket – $100. Good for one year. This does not include parking.

Daily admission prices will be as follows:
12 and up – $6
8 – 11 – $2
7 and under – free.
62 and up (Tues./Thurs.) – $2
Parking – $3
