American Pickers’ Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz will be coming to Maine after Labor Day.

Mainers with overflowing barns and basements will have a chance to earn some cash and appear on the History Channel in September, as ‘American Pickers’ plans to swing through the state just after Labor Day.

Created by Cineflix Productions, the show features Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, a pair of professional antiquers, or “pickers,” who comb through junkyards, barns and attics to find unique and interesting items. Previous shows have included findings that have ranged from cars, motorcycles and other vehicles to musical instruments and appliances to toys and vintage memorabilia. The show also follows the history behind the places and people that Wolfe, Fritz and their team visit.

According to producer Thomas Giglio, American Pickers’ first step when approaching a new region is to reach out to residents and see what’s available. Those interested in appearing on the show should email americanpickers@cineflix or call 646-493-2184 with pictures or a description of their items, as well as a name and contact information.

Giglio stressed that the pickers would only visit large, private collections, not flea markets, antique shops or estate auctions. The show generally features people with large amounts of material, rather than single antiques.

“We love to find big cluttered spaces with lots of items that Mike and Frank can pick from,” Giglio said. Anything that is neat, clean, or looks like a gallery or store doesn’t appeal to the spirit of the show.”

American Pickers will be visiting the state after Labor Day. Their specific route will depend on the response, Giglio said. Typically, the show includes visits to approximately eight sites.

If an application seems promising, the show will send a scout to check it out in advance of the American Picker team.

The show is currently shooting for its sixth season, and has begun moving away from specific categories of antiques, due to frequent appearances in the previous five seasons.
