Boil water order in effect for Jay Village Water District customers

1 min read

JAY – Following a large water main break on the Smith Avenue line this morning, the Jay Village Water District’s customers who lost water are under a boil order until test results confirm the water is safe to drink.

Water district personnel have been trying to repair the break since 8:30 a.m. this morning

Once the water is back on, the district will bring samples to a laboratory in Augusta to be tested for E.coli and coliform bacteria. Once cleared, customers will be notified when they can stop boiling water.

Those affected customers should boil it for at least 1 minute before drinking, brushing teeth, etc. Once boiled, the water can be refrigerated and used as needed.

The aging Smith Avenue waterlines experienced several breaks last fall. Voters approved a municipal budget for this year that includes fixing the old lines.

  1. Many thanks to the crew for working Saturday morning to get our water back on!

After the horrible time we had with breaks last fall, I expected last winter was going to be awful; can’t believe it held up so well! Hopefully, we’ll get the bad lines replaced, and this won’t happen any more.

  2. Another 24+ hours without water just made me appreciate our water even more once it came back on and appreciate the hard work of the crews that worked many, many hours to make this possible!

Hopefully all these old lines will be replaced soon! Being without water for 24+ hours made me realize again how blessed we are to live in the great town of Jay!
