FARMINGTON – A Rangeley man facing a felony operating under the influence charge after a fiery crash in Strong killed another driver, appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon where cash bail was set at $15,000.

Two pick-up trucks collided on Lambert Hill Road Tuesday evening and burst into flames.

Police are waiting for the state’s Medical Examiner’s Office to make a positive identification of the driver of one pick-up, which was registered to a Wilton resident, Sheriff Scott Nichols said this morning.

Mark Garner, 24, was arrested at the scene on a charge of Class B felony operating under the influence because the crash resulted in a death.

Nichols said earlier today that Garner’s pickup, “was traveling at excessive speed according to witnesses in his vehicle, where upon he crossed the center line and collided with the Wilton registered pickup.” Garner’s two passengers Felicia Bell, 32, of Phillips, and Dennis Hanson, 39, of Phillips, were transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital and later released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

On impact, the pick-up trucks both burst into flames. All three people in Garner’s vehicle were able to get out, but the one occupant of the other vehicle was unable to exit. The driver of the pickup registered in Wilton was eventually extricated by Strong Fire Department personnel after the flames were extinguished.

“Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. This crash is still under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming,” Nichols said.

Via videoconferencing, Garner’s bail was set at $15,000 cash with conditions of release that included no use or possession of alcohol and no driving.

  1. Red vehicles speed more, they don’t park between the lines in parking lots. Two colors pass you on Rt. 4 either red or black. The question is; why ?

  2. 2cents: Red vehicles do not speed more…Drivers choose to be in control of their vehicles or not. Same goes for parking! Your statement makes no sense!! The color of the vehicle does not matter!!!

  3. The auto manufactures spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to identify who buys what color of car. Now I’ll leave you to only wonder what kind of people bought ( new ) red vehicles. .

  4. Are you serious, a man with a family of 4 children looses his life to an intoxicated idiot who chose to get behind the wheel and all you can talk about is paint colors. How totally disrespectful. Take a good look in the mirror this morning and know that four children and a wife are doing the same but all they see is tears.. Not red or black or blue. Give me a break…

  5. 4 children are without a father, and that’s the best comment you can come up with?
I would tell you what you can do with your 2 cents, but I think it would go over your head.
