Updated Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 25: The state’s Fire Marshal’s Office has ruled the fire at 119 Lamkin Lane in Farmington as accidental and caused by electrical wiring, said Fire Chief Terry Bell.

FARMINGTON – On Tuesday morning, investigators with the state’s Fire Marshal’s Office were sifting through the charred remains of a house trailer gutted by a fast-moving fire to try and determine the cause.

The trailer at 119 Lamkin Lane, owned by Jon Bubier, was home to tenants David and Amanda Hawkes, said Fire Chief Terry Bell. The trailer park on Lamkin Lane is located one block west of High Street and the fairgrounds.

Fire crews were called to the scene at at 5:24 p.m. Monday evening. Farmington, Chesterville and Wilton responded with other mutual aid departments called back once Bell ascertained three departments could handle the trailer fire.

The Hawkes were home when the fire broke out and called for help.

With the fire station nearby, “I was here in one minute,” Bell said, “and flames were already coming out the windows.”

It appeared the blaze started in a bedroom at the back of the trailer.

Fire investigators Sgt. Kenneth Grimes and Jeremy Damren were on scene Tuesday morning digging into the insulation of the older model structure and shoveling debris out the side of the trailer through cut outs firefighters made to get to the fire and extinguish it.

The fire department’s chaplain, Stanley Wheeler was on scene Monday evening and Tuesday morning to lend support to the couple who lost everything in their home. He contacted the local American Red Cross response team, who provided a place for them to stay the night, clothing and other immediate needs.

This was the second fire within a week in Farmington that destroyed a mobile home. On Oct. 18, a fire displaced a family of eight on Whittier Road. The story can be found here.
