Updated on Saturday, Nov. 28: According to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols, Bryan G. Meyers, 29, of Montana, was summonsed by Cpl. Matt Brann on a charge of criminal trespass in the course of the investigation into the structure fire at an abandon trailer in New Sharon Wednesday evening. Meyers was allegedly “squatting there all summer long,” Nichols said. “He left an unsecured fire going inside the trailer while he was at a local restaurant. As a result of being unattended, the fire spread and engulfed the trailer.”

NEW SHARON – A fire destroyed a small mobile home on Farmington Falls Road next to Tuttles Auto Sales Wednesday evening. The trailer had been abandoned but a person was found to have been living there. The state’s Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate, according to New Sharon Assistant Fire Chief James Prescott.

Fire crews from area towns were called at 4:23 p.m. to the report of a mobile home on fire. Prescott said when he arrived at the scene he saw “a fully involved structure fire.” The trailer was surrounded by small trees that had grown up around it. Fire fighters first on the scene were able to lay a few lines of hose and begin putting out the fire. Crews coming in after used chainsaws to open up access for additional fire hoses.

The blaze was knocked down and contained within a half hour, Prescott said. The trailer had been abandoned and didn’t have anything inside. Word was first received that a transient person had been living there and may have been inside as the fire burned, but Prescott said he was found to be safe.

Busy Farmington Falls Road was reduced to one lane of traffic as crews worked at the scene.

The mutual aid towns of Chesterville, Farmington, Industry and Wilton responded with about 30 fire fighters. A hydrant was located just 100 feet or so from the scene.

The New Sharon crews left the scene at 7:30 p.m. The fire marshal’s investigation into what caused the blaze is underway.  Assisting at the scene were Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies and NorthStar emergency medical services personnel.

  1. Thank God the homeless boy staying there made it out. I have heard that he is only 17 and I hope that the police or firefighters will look into his situation and help him.
